I spent a little bit of time looking at this the other day. It’s fascinating, so I thought I’d share… author Ali Binazir attempts to quantify our existence.

So, your mum and dad meet (which is already a chance of 1 in 20,000…) And then the probability of them staying together long enough to have kids is about 1 in 2,000. Which is where this series of graphics comes in to illustrate:

How large

**IS**that number? It’s not just larger than all of the particles of the universe. It’s larger than all the particles of the universe*if each particle was it’s own universe*. Brain twister. And then the right sperm had to meet the right egg. Biology 101.

*(and the right sperm had to meet the right egg in all of your ancestors too!) That’s 1 in 10 to the power of 2,640, 000!!*Huzzah!!!

A miracle is an event so unlikely as to be almost impossible. It seems, by that definition, we are miracles.

So go forth, and feel and act like the miracle you are.

I can’t. My head hurts from all the numbers.

I miss you. I hope you’re doing ok. x

Reblogged this on I've Got the Page Numbers Done and commented:

This just makes me feel so humble, like I am here for a reason. The chances of my existing are so immeasurably low that I must be here for some reason. I’ve got something to do in this world, and nothing would be the same without me. And the same goes for you.
